Portrayal of Guilt

Austin's Portrayal of Guilt set out to write music that is flat-out scary. Their blackened screamo and hardcore (blast beats, sludgy drops and shredded screams) is built on a horror score's tension and release. They watched horror films in the studio while recording. Devil Music (2023) made the idea literal: five songs on one side, then the same five reimagined on the other with strings, timpani and brass, modeled on Bernard Herrmann and Jerry Goldsmith.

“Austin's horror-scored blackened hardcore, playing rooms of every size this fall.”
