Gudsforladt
Gudsforladt (Norwegian for “godforsaken”) is a one-man Los Angeles black metal project that calls its own sound “righteous, pure and true black metal.” That sound melds classic-metal melody — closer to Iron Maiden than to most of the genre's harshness — with lo-fi, primitive black metal production, steeped in medieval battle and folklore imagery rather than the genre's usual Satanic iconography. Reviewers have called it blistering yet woeful, and, unusually for black metal, one of the more eternally positive records the genre has produced.
